Steve Bruce has backed Andy Carroll to form a Twin Towers strike force with £40m striker Joelinton.

The Geordie striker is fit to face Brighton today – the first time he’s been injury free since February.

Bruce will use Carroll, 30, off the bench, insisting he can spark Newcastle’s goal-shy attack and help haul the club out of the bottom three.

Carroll was signed in the summer on a free transfer with a contract heavily incentivised on him playing games.

He is a risk. Carroll’s last goal was in January in the FA Cup against Birmingham for West Ham .

His last Premier League goal was April 2018 against Stoke. He’s got three top flight goals since early April 2017 because of his injury troubles.

But Bruce says he’s not the “young daft” Carroll of his younger days and has already been vocal in centre forward…
