First coronavirus case in Northern Ireland takes UK total to 16

Northern Ireland has confirmed its first presumed case of coronavirus, bringing the UK total to 16.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride said an adult had showed a presumptive positive result for Covid-19 and the diagnosis was being verified by laboratories in England.

The patient had travelled from northern Italy via Dublin, officials said at a briefing in Belfast,

No further details have been released about the individual, who contacted a GP and put themselves in self-isolation when suspicions arose.
